On Tuesday, the Blues added a left-handed defenseman, but not a top four defenseman by any stretch of the imagination.
The Blues brought back old friend Jeff Woywitka on a one year, two way contract to provide further depth on the blue-line, according to the team's official website.
Woywitka returns to the Blues, whom he played for in 2005-2009.
Woywitka was originally acquired by the Blues in the trade that sent Chris Pronger to the Edmonton Oilers and brought back Woywitka and more notably, former team captain Eric Brewer.
Woywitka has split time in past seasons between the NHL and AHL as he has struggled to find a landing spot full time with an NHL club.
Last season Woywitka was with the New York Rangers organization and appeared in 27 games, scoring one goal and assisting on five others while posting a plus two.
The signing of Woywitka certainly will not be what Blues fans will be looking for during free agency as fans are hoping the organization's new ownership will make a big splash to push this young club to the next level. The signing of Woywitka certainly is not anything to get too excited about, but he helps add to a solid base of experience on defense if injuries occur.
Welcome back to St. Louis Jeff Woywitka!
