Wainwright on Cardinals: "Don't ever doubt our hearts"

Adam Wainwright's performance in Game Five of the National League Division Series with the Washington Nationals was certainly sub-par.  The ace only made it through two and one third innings, allowing six earned runs.

Wainwright was shelled by the Nationals in the biggest of games.  It would have been easy for the Cardinals to fold up shop after their stud pitcher was so ineffective.  But as everyone knows, the Cardinals did not fold.  They fought back and miraculously won with four runs in maybe the most memorable ninth inning in franchise history.

Wainwright was very appreciative of the Cardinals picking him up and having his back.  Wainwright told Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he is real proud to be a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.

"I told them all, 'I'm just real proud to be a St. Louis Cardinal, and to be your teammate right now.' That show of heart, and that show of fortitude right there? It was special for me to watch. It was just special for the fans to watch. I was taken aback, and moved by what they'd done. I just felt I needed to tell the guys just what it meant to me, and a lot of people who love the Cardinals. This is an amazing team. Don't ever doubt our hearts. Because we have heart."

The heart, moxie, and allure of this Cardinals bunch certainly has to be an intimidating proposition for opponents.

The team never quits, even when their ace struggles.  Wainwright won't struggle again and you can guarantee that the Cardinals will fight to the very end.

They have proven it over and over again.
