St. Louis vs. San Jose: Blues lose steam in 2-1 loss at home

After the St. Louis Blues beat the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night in overtime, the team was expecting to return home on Monday to prepare for a rematch of last year's first round playoff matchup with the San Jose Sharks.

Unfortunately, the Blues were grounded in Vancouver for a full extra day due to some technical issues and appeared to look weary from travel as the Blues lost 2-1 in regulation to the Sharks at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

The Blues did not look lethargic to begin the game, getting on the board first on a goal by center Patrik Berglund. The Blues dominated play not only in the first period, but also in the second, outshooting the Sharks 21-16 in the first two periods.

But the Sharks were able to get a second period goal from Joe Thornton on a rebound off the pads of rookie goalie Jake Allen.

Then in the third, Allen allowed a soft goal on a shot from the boards by Tim Kennedy, which proved to be the game winner.

Allen received his fourth consecutive start between the pipes even though Jaroslav Halak was healthy enough to play. Allen was decent on the night, but did make some mistakes which ultimately cost the Blues the game.
