According to Cole, the previously discussed stadium deal that was in place in an attempt to lure a NFL franchise back to Los Angeles is "essentially dead."
The news comes just six months after the leaders in L.A. approved the plan put forth by AEG to build a downtown stadium.
While this is good news to Rams' fans, as well as fans of the Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers and any other team who possibly could relocate, the NFL is not ruling out alternative locations in the Los Angeles area.
"We continue to monitor the AEG situation and remain interested in multiple sites in the Los Angeles area," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement.
The news comes a few months after arbitration between the Rams and the city of St. Louis ended with a decision that the Edward Jones Dome and its proposed enhancements would not qualify as a top tier stadium and that alternatives (i.e. a new stadium) would need to be explored.
