Ever since, Cardinals' have booed Phillips every time he comes to the plate, fields the ball or breathes. Phillips repaid Cardinals' fans with a game-winning RBI in the ninth inning to go with a solo home run earlier in the game in the 13-4 defeat of the Redbirds.
Phillips is not liked in St. Louis, yet despite the animosity, Phillips did take time to tweet before the game about just how special the Cardinals' home opener celebration and tribute of Stan "The Man" Musial was.
#OpeningDaySTL... WOWWWW!!! What an AMAZING Tribute of the Legend #StanTheManMusial!!! RIP #6

The comment by Phillips, who is never shy to share his opinion on anything, was a classy move.
Cardinals' fans scrutinize every step Phillips takes and they seem to dislike him more each time the Reds come to town. But there is no denying that Phillips is an outstanding talent and likely the best all-around second baseman in the National League.
The tweet by Phillips may be a gesture of truce by Phillips. It does seem awfully trivial that Cardinals fans continue to boo Phillips for something that happened over two seasons ago.
Maybe Cardinals' fans should stop booing Phillips until he does something worthy of being booed again. It is not as if the booing is working very well. Phillips hit .333 with two homer and seven RBIs at Busch Stadium in 2012. The boos certainly do not affect him.
It is alright to dislike Phillips still, even after his comments. But it is definitely time to cool the booing.
