Sanchez was placed on waivers in order to make room on the 40-man roster for left-handed rookie Tyler Lyons, who made his Major League debut on Wednesday evening against the San Diego Padres.
Sanchez, who broke on to the scene as a 22-year old in 2011 to help the Cardinals bullpen close-out five saves in 26 very effective appearances, has struggled ever since. 2012 was not as kind to Sanchez, who has constantly battled command issues and injuries the past two seasons.
Now, still at the ripe age of 24, Sanchez is no longer a member of the St. Louis Cardinals and it was obvious that general manager John Mozeliak did not think he figured into the organization's future.
But did Mozeliak make a mistake? Was the general manager not patient enough? Should he have made other moves in an effort to save Sanchez?
