St. Louis Cardinals: What should we expect if Chris Carpenter does return?

St. Louis Cardinals fans are buzzing about the possibility of another miracle comeback by 38-year old ace Chris Carpenter. When news broke on May 5 via Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Carpenter has an inclination to make a comeback to help an ailing bullpen, the legend of Chris Carpenter immediately started to grow even larger.

After he completed his third throwing session in the last week on Wednesday, Cardinals fans are as confident as ever that they will get their "baseball Jesus" back.

But what should we expect from Chris Carpenter if he indeed is able to make it all the way back to pitch for the Cardinals in 2013?

Can he start?

Will he be effective as a reliever, a role unfamiliar to him?

If Carpenter is healthy, that is one thing. If he is going to be effective is another.
